YOGYAKARTA – To improve tourism in Yogyakarta, the Ministry of Tourism held a Technical Guidance titled Management of Rural and Urban Tourism. The Technical Guidance that was held at the Atrium Hotel and Resort, 31st July -1st August 2019 was expected to provide knowledge for tourism managers so that they are able to create rural tourism patterns, especially in Kulon Progo Regency, Purworejo Regency and Magelang Regency.
This technical guidance also aimed to improve the development of destinations, the preparation of storytelling and the establishment of effective travel patterns. In addition, the technical guidance was expected to be able to produce and package tourism products with the principle of pentahelix synergy in the framework of sustainable tourism so that it has high potential to bring in foreign tourists, especially in Magelang Regency, Kulon Progo Regency and Purworejo Regency.
So, what is the Ministry of Tourism looking for through the Technical Guidance in Yogyakarta?
Apparently, there is a big thing targeted. The Ministry of Tourism that is led by Arief Yahya wants to develop tourist villages in Magelang, Kulon Progo and Purworejo as alternative tourism in increasing tourist arrivals to Joglosemar (Jogyakarta Solo and Semarang).
Deputy of Industrial and Institutional Development Division of the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism, Ni Wayan Giri Adyani said that the potential of rural tourism in Magelang, Kulon Progo and Purworejo was very high. Why? It is because those are rich of local culture. Kanjeng Ratu Hemas herself made Kulon Progo as a model for the development of a cultural village.
“The local culture here is highlighted such as wayang, traditional clothing as the identity of the community in order to preserve culture and so on. Through this technical guidance, later on the villages in Yogyakarta will become the quality tourism villages that are competitive through the tour packages offered,” said Giri.
According to Giri, the development of the gelangprogorejo area (Magelang, Kulon progo and Purworejo) was mentioned in the discussion of a previous meeting by the Ministry of Tourism and the Government tourism office in the gelangprogorejo area, whereas the three regencies currently are also included in the area of the Borobudur Authority. One that is being developed is De’Loano, which is a glamping (glamour camping) area. It is located on the border of 3 regencies. Besides, Kulonprogo Regency has the advantage of being the new airport, Yogyakarta International Airport. This airport will become the new development center of Yogyakarta Province.
There were 40 participants of the technical guidance from 3 districts. They were tour operators, communities, Pokdarwis, ASITA, HPI, PHRI, Academics, Indonesian Tourism Guides Association of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province Tourism Office, Borobudur Authority Agency, Tourism Agency of Kulon Progo Regency, District Tourism Office of Purworejo, and the Department of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Magelang Regency.
